Meet Tisha

A Caregiver
at Heart

I am Mrs. Tisha Dickson Nickson. I am a caregiver at heart and have worked in the healthcare industry for 30 years. Over the decades, I have witnessed a troubling pattern: patients receiving less care while paying more for it.

While sharing my Healthcare for All platform with my son, I realized that he represents the very people I am fighting for. He works hard every day, yet because the federal minimum wage has remained at $7.25 per hour since 2009, he does not earn a living wage. He brings home approximately $1,600 per month. With rent exceeding $1,000, very little remains for utilities, food, transportation, and other basic necessities. To stay afloat, he relies on a roommate to help cover household expenses.

"Life is precious. Healthcare and food are basic human rights, and no one should have to live without them."

— Tisha Dickson Nickson

As consumer prices continue to rise, coverage under the Affordable Care Act has become financially out of reach for many working individuals. As a result, my son is currently uninsured. He has a medical condition that, if left untreated, could lead to hospitalization or critical care. Sadly, many others face the same reality — earning too much to qualify for Medicaid, yet too little to afford private insurance.

Dickson Nickson is for the people. I am committed to expanding Medicaid so that working families are not left without coverage. I will advocate for increased SNAP benefits that reflect the real cost of food today. I will also work to establish a local mental health hospital to support those struggling with depression, stress, and crisis — before situations escalate into tragedy.

The Platform

Fighting for What Matters

Expand Medicaid

Working families should never be left without healthcare coverage. I will fight to expand Medicaid so that no one falls through the cracks.

Increase SNAP Benefits

Current SNAP benefits of $15–$30 per month do not reflect the real cost of food. I will advocate for benefits that keep pace with today's prices.

Mental Health Hospital

I will work to establish a local mental health hospital to support those struggling with depression, stress, and crisis — before situations escalate.

Healthcare for All

After 30 years in healthcare, I have seen patients receive less care while paying more. It is time to put people before profits.
